This policy explains what information Chop & Savor ("we", "us") collects when you use www.chopandsavor.com, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We keep it brief and describe what the site actually does.
Who is responsible
Chop & Savor is a small, independently run recipe website published by the Chop & Savor Kitchen. The site operator is responsible for the personal data described here. If you have a question about your data, use the contact page and include "privacy" in your message so we can prioritize it.
What we collect
Contact and correction forms. When you send us a message or report a recipe correction, we receive your name, email address, and message. The form emails this information to us. We use it only to reply and correct the recipe. Writing to us does not add you to a mailing list.
Newsletter. If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address, the date you signed up, and where on the site you signed up. We use this information only to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe from any newsletter or ask us to delete your address through the contact page.
Server and security logs. Like most websites, our servers record technical details for each request: your IP address, the URL requested, the date and time, your browser (user agent), and the referring page. When someone visits a page that does not exist, we store the URL, referrer, user agent, and IP address to help us fix broken links and detect abusive traffic. We also use IP addresses briefly in memory to limit repeated form submissions and count a page view only once per visitor.
View counts. We count how often each recipe is opened. Each recipe has a single view count that is not linked to you.
Choices stored in your browser. We store your cookie consent choice in a cookie_consent cookie and a local storage entry. If you save recipes, their titles, links, and images are stored in your browser's local storage. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.
Analytics and advertising (Google)
We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which recipes people read and how they find the site. We may show ads served by Google AdSense. These services can set cookies and process your IP address and device information.
We use Google Consent Mode v2. Analytics and advertising storage are set to "denied" by default. Where consent is required, such as in the EU, the UK, and Türkiye, analytics and ad cookies are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner. If you decline, Google may still receive limited, cookieless signals, as Google describes. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
For more on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also read Google's privacy policy and manage personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.
Affiliate links
Some pages may link to products through affiliate programs. If you click one of these links, the shop or affiliate network may set its own cookies to track a purchase. We receive aggregate commission reports, not your personal details. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Legal bases
Under the EU/UK GDPR and the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK), we rely on:
- Consent for analytics and advertising cookies and the newsletter. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests for server logs, security, fixing broken links, and counting views.
- Taking steps at your request when you contact us and we reply.
- Legal obligations when the law requires us to keep or disclose data.
How long we keep data
- Contact and correction emails: for as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted within 24 months.
- Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address.
- Not-found and security logs: normally for up to 12 months.
- Google Analytics data: according to the retention setting in our Analytics account (at most 14 months for user-level data).
- Consent choice in your browser: until you change it or clear your browser data.
Sharing and international transfers
We do not sell personal data. Our hosting provider, email provider, and Google process data for the purposes described above. Some of these providers are outside Türkiye and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. These transfers rely on safeguards allowed by law: under the GDPR, adequacy decisions (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or standard contractual clauses; under KVKK Article 9, permitted transfer mechanisms such as standard contracts, or your explicit consent where that is the applicable basis.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask whether we process your data, request a copy, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, or move it to another service. Under KVKK Article 11, you also have the right to learn why your data is processed and which third parties receive it. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that took place before you withdrew it. To exercise any of these rights, write to us through the contact page. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Türkiye, the Personal Data Protection Authority, KVKK).
Children
This is a general cooking website and is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect children's data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this page if the site starts or stops using a service that affects your data, and we will change the date at the top.
